Restoring Landscapes, Strengthening Livelihoods, and Building Climate-Resilient Communities in Rwanda

The Movement for Christ in Rwanda (MPCR) is committed to promoting environmental stewardship, climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, and community development through forest landscape restoration and agroforestry initiatives across Rwanda.

Recognizing the growing challenges of land degradation, soil erosion, climate change, declining agricultural productivity, and biodiversity loss, MPCR works with local communities, government institutions, development partners, and international organizations to restore degraded landscapes while improving household incomes and food security.

Our forest and agroforestry programs contribute to Rwanda's national vision for environmental sustainability and landscape restoration by promoting tree planting, agroforestry systems, watershed protection, climate-smart agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and community-based natural resource management. These approaches help restore ecosystem functions, improve soil fertility, reduce erosion, strengthen climate resilience, and enhance livelihoods for vulnerable households.

Current Project Location: Rutsiro District, Western Province, Rwanda

MPCR is currently implementing its flagship forest landscape restoration and agroforestry program in Rutsiro District, located in Rwanda's Western Province. The project is specifically being implemented in Boneza Sector, focusing on the cells of:

Remera
Kamuzigura
Rusororo

These communities are benefiting from MPCR's long-term commitment to environmental restoration, sustainable agriculture, climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, and livelihood improvement.

Through this initiative, MPCR works closely with local communities to restore degraded land, expand agroforestry systems, increase tree cover, improve soil fertility, strengthen biodiversity conservation, and promote climate-smart agricultural practices. The project also supports household income generation, food security, environmental stewardship, and community well-being.

Our Major Forest and Agroforestry Projects

1. Forest Landscape Restoration and Climate Change Adaptation Program (2023–2025)

Project Title:
Promoting Forest Landscape Restoration Towards Strengthening Climate Change Adaptation Capacity for Poor and Vulnerable Households

Location:
Kabarore Sector, Nyabikiri Cell, Gatsibo District, Rwanda

Project Objectives:

Restore degraded landscapes through tree planting and agroforestry.
Strengthen climate adaptation capacity among vulnerable households.
Improve soil fertility and agricultural productivity.
Promote environmental conservation and sustainable land management.
Enhance community resilience to climate-related challenges.

2. Agroforestry for Sustainable Livelihoods and Community Well-Being (2024–2026)

Promote agroforestry systems for land restoration.
